ALMOST 750 TURTLES ADMITTED TO TRAUMA CENTRE THIS YEAR

A lot more turtles are moving around the province this year, which is why more of them are getting injured.

The Executive and Medical Director at the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre in Peterborough says turtles are moving around more because the weather is ideal, compared to last year's hot and sicky conditions.

Sue Carstairs says turtles move to find mates, feeding grounds and when they're nesting.

Due to the fact that turtles travel many kilometers to find the right site, they often run into roads, which increases their chance of being hit by cars.

Carstairs says there are some things people can do to help limit the injuries.

Almost 750 turtles have been admitted to the trauma centre from all across Ontario this year alone.
