Representatives of the Chicken Farmers of Ontario were at Salvation Army Strathroy Monday discussing their program and celebrating the partnership the organizations share. CFO Cares is a program which donates chickens to food banks across Ontario. It goes a little against the mold of donating food that is actually perishable, but Salvation Army Strathroy Major Roland Shea giving these out before they go bad is far from a concern.
Shea says the donations throughout the year by CFO give something different for families as it’s a solid meal and too expensive for the Salvation Army to go out and purchase in bulk on their own. CFO Board Director Brian Lewis says CFO Cares has been around for over 4 years and in that time, over 3 million chickens have been donated. Strathroy-Caradoc Mayor Joanne Vanderheyden and Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton were also there and made remarks.
