Dylan Mclay says they were more surprised about the support the Liberals got in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex than anything else.
The NDP MP candidate was one of five people who fell to Conservative Lianne Rood for the vacant seat Monday night, a result he’s obviously not happy with.
Mclay finished third in voting behind Rood and Liberal Jesse McCormick. Rood secured 49.3% of the votes, McCormick 25.3%, and Mclay 15.9%.
He said it’s possible some ballots swayed to the latter because of voters employing strategic voting, as he said they’ve seen in other ridings.
Mclay said Lambton-Kent-Middlesex has always had a fierce and loyal NDP base and their best local results came during the late Jack Layton’s campaign, and they’ll be back taking another crack at it come the next election.
