Local resident Barry Wolfe is going to be at Strathroy-Caradoc council tonight although he’d like to be an active part of it rather than a viewer in the chambers. Wolfe has been in contact with the municipality multiple times trying to get them to revive and fix a project which is intended to honour and respect fallen troops. The idea of installing 47 banners on utility poles called the Veterans Memorial Parkway stretching from the cemetery to the Cenotaph as well as creating a recognition display in the museum came to light in 2015, and to this day he says it’s yet to be complete despite having the previous backing of council. 44 of the banners would include battalion emblems with the other three being the local Legion branch, the memorial Canadian flag, and the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire (IODE). Wolfe says those ones are not correctly placed.
Wolfe would like to see the flag be moved from the parking lot in the Legion where it’s currently located to the front of the cemetery, which is the beginning of the Veterans Memorial Way. Wolfe also wants the removal of the branding plaque near the Strathroy Cenotaph and the completion of the museum display. He said his request to make a presentation to council tonight was denied. Council members have no obligation to discuss or make a recommendation this evening as his letter to council which was submitted earlier is listed under communications with an action to receive and file the information but no link to any correspondence.
