Over 4,000 members now from locals to those across the pond, enjoy the Strathroy Virtual Karaoke Facebook Page, now more than ever. Its creator Alainna Tugwell says what started as a fun challenge between friends quickly exploded, and now the group’s played a bigger role of late due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tugwell says it was never the expectation to create a movement of this size, but it goes to show what actions can do.
She points to people offering to buy groceries for others who can’t go outside or posting when certain stores have hot ticket items as examples of that during COVID-19. The pandemic has slowed life down for most people, Tugwell included, but keeping connected online with friends and more time with her kids is something Tugwell doesn’t look away from. Without question, she says creating the group and seeing its growth has been an impressive feat.
The Facebook page is littered with hundreds of videos of individuals and families singing along to their song of choice inside their home.
