$2.2 billion is coming its way to Canadian municipalities through the gas tax fund.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the move Monday to assist cities and towns struggling with a lack of operation funds.
City of London mayor Ed Holder has been calling on any level of support from the country or province for a number of weeks, and said this is a good start.
Municipalities receive two gas tax payments each year so this is not new funding, the difference is they’re receiving both payments in one cheque.
Holder is optimistic more help will be announced at a later date.
Middlesex County warden Cathy Burghardt-Jesson echoed Holder’s thoughts, saying while they do not have the same level of challenges the city has, the funding will help throughout the county.
