When Jon Davis got into a car accident eight years ago, he was told he was never going to walk again.
That took a major mental toll on Davis, almost as much as the physical. Through two physical trainers in four years, Davis didn’t regain control of his arms, until Greg Horton came into the picture.
The owner of The Casual Athlete in town crossed paths with Davis one day, and the two immediately went to work, putting in sessions which would take hours to try and prove the doctors wrong.
The hard work has really started to show recently once Horton had a brainwave: involve virtual reality into Davis’ training regime. In a sense, the VR set tricks Davis’ brain into working his muscles again, Horton explained.
Horton says the videos of Davis working out have stretched far and wide. Athletes, universities, and even major gaming corporations are reaching out, asking if they can help.
Once very depressed, Horton said Davis has turned into “his personal buddha,” and his mental strength carries a large weight into getting his movement back.
Horton didn’t set out to make groundbreaking medical history by putting a VR set on Davis, but it’s worked out that way, and in Horton’s words, Davis is proving nothing is impossible.
