Can an employer force a COVID vaccine on their employees. Now that COVID-19 vaccines are available to certain people in Canada, that begs the question, are there any provincial mandates requiring certain individuals to get vaccinated. Toronto lawyer, Michael Comartin went over the current situation in Ontario.
Comartin says public health agencies would not need permission from the province to enforce vaccination mandates on to health care workers.
He says a provincial COVID-19 vaccination mandate does not exist, but theoretically, if you are not unionized, you can get fired for not getting inoculated.
However, he notes most health care workers are unionized and public health units would have to reach a collective agreement with unions in order to enforce a vaccine mandate.
