Concerns are arising about the recent approval of a $75 fee for water meter replacements to residents who have not yet allowed this process to occur. Strathroy-Caradoc Council has said there are just over 600 homes refusing to allow technicians on their property due to the majority of concerns being COVID related and why should residents allow this when places like Town Hall are closed.
CAO Fred Tranquilli tells myFM that Town Hall itself has never been closed to contractors for various duties, but is closed only to the public as the building does not provide any essential services but the water meter replacement program is an essential service.
Tranquilli says thousands of meters have been replaced over the last year. Residents have received at least six requests to set up an appointment, with strict protocols being implemented by the contractor and he says feedback from residents has been uniformly positive.
The Municipality strongly encourages residents who have not had this replacement completed, to please do so to avoid being charged the manual read fee.
