Lambton County has started conducting their enumeration of the local homeless population, which they are doing this week. Every two years they are supposed to conduct one, but COVID-19 made them put the 2020 one on hold until this year. The County of Lambton Homelessness Prevention team will lead the Homelessness Enumeration project this week with support from staff within the Social Services Division, the Sarnia Lambton Native Friendship Centre, the Inn of the Good Shepherd and the North Lambton Community Health Center. Valerie Colasanti, General Manager of the Social Services Division for the County of Lambton said that there are a few reasons why this project is needed.
Participation in the project is voluntary, but the county is asking people to come forward to participate so that they have a better understanding of the homeless population. Staff will also be at places where homeless people tend to stay, in an attempt to reach more individuals.
