Strathroy-Caradoc Council heard discussion on the McEvoy Road Reconstruction Project Monday night. The project for the road that connects Strathroy to Mount Brydges was broken down into 2 phases with phase 1 of the project focusing on Inadale Drive with expected completion being this month, and Phase 2, McEvoy Road would include tree and stump removals, road upgrades and storm drainage works.
The original plan for phase 2 was the entirety of McEvoy Road from Glengyle Drive to Adelaide Road, but that has now changed due to costing being above the original budget, CA approvals, protected woodlands, and land acquisitions. Phase 2 will now be from Glengyle Drive to a point 800 metres south of Inadale Drive.
Councillor John Brennan voiced comments of disappointment in the change and questioned if there would be cycling access on phase 2 with paved shoulders all the way. The answer was an 8-meter paved platform and CAO Fred Tranquilli also commented saying designated cycling routes are in fact coming to the area but this particular road was not selected as one of them.
Tranquilli added in the next few weeks there will be public consultations held to discuss proposed municipal cycling routes. Council approved to receive the McEvoy Reconstruction Project report and tender phase 2 to GW-EX Incorporated for the amount of $2,371,317.79 plus HST. The project has been said to be completed this year.
