Construction is just waiting for the cooperation of Mother Nature before getting started in Dorchester Ontario for a new state-of-the-art baseball stadium. The Great Lake Canadians amateur organization along with some usage by Dorchester Minor Baseball will make their new home at the Hamilton Road Field of Dreams site. When complete, the venue will house seating for 400, that includes chair back VIP seats for 100, a batting tunnel, turfed bullpens, 50-foot dugouts and a batter’s eye. If there is going to be any additional amenities, that will come from fundraising by the Canadians. Owners of the organization, Adam Stern and Chris Robinson have locked down the once former playing surface from Rogers Centre which was replaced in 2021 thanks to a partnership with the Blue Jays.
Funding for the project will come from the Municipality of Thames Centre in combination of adding an additional diamond at the Outdoor Recreation Complex to the five soccer fields there.
Thames Centre is pledging $2.8 million, which directly comes from development charges to combine with the funding from the Great Lake Canadians in partnership with the Blue Jays of $400,000.
