The Market Pet Shop in Komoka has been through quite a lot, as one of Canada’s oldest pet stores.
Julia Sungaila-Needham, new Owner of the store says it’s been open since 1955
The Market Pet Shop sells cat and dog food, toys and accessories, some bird and fish food as well as grooming services. Julia and her Husband met working at Superpets in the early 2000’s. They each have 25 years in the pet industry. Sungaila-Needham started her first business, Need Some Sun, in 2006. Need Some Sun is an online business that has turned into more. Sungaila-Needham and her Husband started traveling across the country and focused on canine athletics. they supplied canine athletes with everything they needed to compete.
They then built a facility on their property. The new facility was a part of their 10-year plan, but Sungaila-Needham quickly grew out of it in less than 2 years.
While talking to the previous owner of The Market Pet Shop, she found he was retiring and thought this would be a great addition to her rapidly growing business.
