The Ministry of Labour is calling on both sides to resolve their differences at the negotiating table after a union representing 375,000 employees of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board threatened to go on strike if a new deal isn’t reached by next week.
Ministry spokeswoman Jennifer Rushby says she is confident that the Canadian Union of Public Employees and W-S-I-B can reach an agreement by working together.
She says W-S-I-B will continue processing the claims, providing pay and medical coverage and supporting the injured workers during the negotiations.
CU-PE says the workload on the board’s employees has doubled compared to a few years ago, and that they want more money, more resources and more training.
