Some big steps towards a new arena in Mount Brydges were taken this week at Strathroy-Caradoc Council. Information from update #3 of the project went to Council for information and now according to Councillor and Arena Committee Chairperson Steve Pelkman, the process now goes to the people.
Coming up this month, Pelkman says they will be hosting an open house.
The committee has also provided a best-guess costing utilizing the 2023 Canadian Cost Guide for construction. Based on the guide the current construction cost for an arena with a gymnasium would range from $345/sqft to $435/sqft. The current estimated area of the recreation centre is around 71,500 sqft, which equals an estimated cost to construct the facility from $24,667,500 to $31,102,500.
Pelkman does note, that any of these figures are still rough ,they have not been approved in any way and there are additional costs not included.
This estimate does not include the costs for exterior parking lot work and demolition of either the Caradoc Community Centre or the Tri-Township Arena. It must be noted that NO formal costing has been conducted at this stage.
