The 36th summer season of Peterborough Musicfest continues on Wednesday, August 16 at Del Crary Park, featuring the renowned rock band Big Wreck as the headliner. Originally established in Boston in 1982, the band adopted the name Big Wreck in 1994 and released their debut album, “In Loving Memory Of…,” three years later. Since then, they have produced six more albums, with their latest release, “7,” coming out earlier this year.
Big Wreck has been nominated for the Juno Award four times, receiving recognition in the Rock Album of the Year category for “Albatross,” “Ghosts,” “Grace Street,” and “…But For The Sun.” The band achieved early success with popular singles such as “The Oaf (My Luck Is Wasted),” “That Song,” “Blown Wide Open,” and “Lighthouse.”
In 2011, Big Wreck made a significant impact once again with their captivating singles “Albatross,” “Wolves,” “A Million Days,” and “Ghosts.” They continued to captivate their dedicated fanbase and attract new listeners with subsequent hits like “One Good Piece Of Me” and “Middle of Nowhere.”
Although original member Brian Doherty passed away in 2019, the band’s founder, singer, and guitarist Ian Thornley, has taken it upon himself to ensure that Big Wreck remains relevant and at the top of their game as a touring act. This commitment is being realized through a major North American tour scheduled for 2023.
