Derrick Walser is taking the reigns of a WHL franchise.
The Red Deer Rebels have announced they’ve hired the Petes’ Assistant Coach, ending a six-year tenure with the organization.
General Manager Mike Oke says Derrick has been a staple on the Petes bench and has earned the opportunity to become a head coach at this level.
Walser, a native of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, issued a statement saying he’s thankful for his time in Peterborough and the city will always feel like home to him and his family.
Before beginning his career behind the bench, Walser played nineteen seasons of professional hockey between the NHL (Columbus), AHL (Syracuse, Saint John, Albany, Toronto), ECHL (Johnstown), KHL (Chekhov), Swiss-A (Rapperswil-Jona), DEL (Berlin), and was most recently a Player/Head Coach for two seasons with the Belfast Giants of the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL).
