A Canadian politician, Peter Robinson is recognized as Peterborough’s founder for facilitating the passage to, and settlement of, 2,500 Irish Catholic families to Scott’s Plans from 1823 to 1825. Scott’s Plains was subsequently renamed Peterborough in his honour.
