With the OHL season set to start next month, the Peterborough Petes have named Dave Lorentz, a Petes alumnus and current Vice President, as the new President of the Board of Directors.
The decision was announced during the OHL Board of Governors Meetings held yesterday. The move follows the declaration made by Dave Pogue at the Petes 2023 Awards Banquet that he would step down from his role as President after the 2022-23 season. Pogue, however, will continue to contribute to the organization, taking on the positions of Past President and Alternate Governor on the Board.
Reflecting on his tenure, Pogue expressed gratitude for the privilege of serving as President for the past seven years. He conveyed his pride in the team’s accomplishments both on and off the ice during his leadership.
Lorentz, who played for the Petes from 1987 to 1990 and captained the team’s 1989 OHL Championship squad, has a strong hockey background. He was drafted in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft by the Washington Capitals and represented Team Canada at the 1992 Spengler Cup.
Lorentz’s involvement extended beyond his playing days as he joined the Petes Board of Directors in January 2013, following his service as President of the Petes Alumni Association. He also boasts experience as a retired high school principal within the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board.
Pogue expressed confidence in Lorentz’s abilities, highlighting his meticulous attention to detail, strong work ethic, and unwavering passion for the Petes. Lorentz’s extensive experience and familiarity with the organization make him a promising leader for the future.
Lorentz conveyed his honor and pride at being chosen as the President of the Peterborough Petes. As a former player, he expressed his commitment to maintaining the organization’s traditions and successes, building upon the legacy of those who came before him.
Acknowledging Pogue’s contributions, Lorentz thanked him for his leadership during his presidency, which saw notable achievements, including an OHL Championship in 2023, an Eastern Conference Finals appearance in 2017, facility lease agreements with the City of Peterborough, increased game attendance, and player and staff development.
The official introduction of Dave Lorentz as the President of the Board of Directors will take place during a press conference scheduled for August 23 at the Peterborough District Sports Hall of Fame. The event will be streamed live on the Petes’ Facebook page.
