OPP officers on a routine patrol along Shaw Road in Thames Centre were alerted by the Automatic Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system about a potentially suspended driver.
A traffic stop was conducted, and as a result the driver of the vehicle, a 42-year-old resident of Thames Centre, has been formally charged under the Highway Traffic Act for Driving while under suspension.
The passenger, a 28-year-old from London, has faced charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act for Possession of a Schedule III Substance and Possession of a Schedule I Substance Methamphetamine.
The implementation of In Car Cameras and ALPR systems in Middlesex County OPP vehicles began on March 13, 2023.
Despite these advancements, Middlesex OPP officers continue to encounter instances where drivers operate vehicles lacking valid and registered license plates, or drive without proper licensing due to suspension or prohibition.
While the acquisition of a validation sticker for vehicles is not obligatory, the annual or bi-annual renewal of license plates remains mandatory.
The Middlesex OPP wishes to emphasize that driving with expired validation carries a fixed fine of $110.
