As Remembrance Day approaches, millions of Canadians wear Poppies as a pledge to never forget those who served and sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Second Vice President and Poppy Chair at Strathroy Royal Canadian Legion Branch 116 Bob Wilson says the Poppy campaign is on now and many places in Strathroy will be handing them out.
Wilson says there is something that bugs him each year when poppies are handed out.
He says Poppies are not for sale, they are distributed to everyone free of charge. Any donations that are received go towards veterans and veterans programs.
Canada adopted the poppy as a symbol of remembrance in 1921 after Moina Michael, a member of an Overseas YMCA traveled to Canada and persuaded the Canadian Great War Veterans Association to use the poppy as a symbol of remembrance.
