Hydro One is asking the community for input to help choose one of three possible routes for new transmission lines delivering more power to southwestern Ontario by 2030. After running some open houses already this year for Indigenous community members, politicians, property owners, businesses, and residents from Strathroy to Lakeshore, one closer to home is coming up this week in Glencoe.
The chosen route will carry two new transmission lines from Hydro One’s Longwood transformer station in Strathroy-Caradoc to its Lakeshore transformer station. Two routes follow Highway 401 to the south, while the other runs north above Chatham-Kent. By 2030, Hydro One expects the first line to be operational, delivering an additional 550 megawatts of power to the region. The route for the Longwood to Lakeshore project is set to be chosen by early next year. There will be an open house this Thursday, April 4, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Glencoe Agricultural Hall and an online open house on April 24th.
