A resident of Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation, has been seriously injured in a dog attack from Saturday in the early morning hours. OPP and Middlesex-London Paramedic Service responded to Nicholas Road, and a 32-year-old was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The investigation is ongoing, but it’s believed that both stray dogs and coyotes were involved in the attack. Coyotes can be found all over Ontario, in both cities and the countryside. If you spot a coyote, keep your distance and admire it from afar.
If you ever encounter an aggressive animal, remember these tips:
Don’t approach it
Don’t run away with your back turned
Stand tall, make noise, and back away slowly
If it’s a danger, call 9-1-1
To avoid conflicts with coyotes:
Don’t leave food outside that attracts wildlife
Keep your pets indoors at night
Clean up after your dog because coyotes like dog poop
Use a fence that goes underground to keep coyotes out
Store garbage in sealed containers or put it out on collection day
