Over the weekend, the annual OHL Priority Draft took place, and some local talent was part of the celebration. Austin Brekelmans from Strathroy, who also plays as an affiliate player for the Strathroy Rockets, was drafted in the 7th round by the North Bay Battalion. The Brekelmans name well known around hockey circles locally as his dad and two uncles all laced it up for the Rockets and are on the team’s Wall of Fame.
Three other affiliate players from the Rockets were also drafted. Carter Hicks of London was picked in the 2nd Round by the Windsor Spitfires, Raiden Doxtator of London in the 7th Round to Peterborough and Luke Wachowiak of London chosen in the 11th Round by Niagara.
