Ontario’s Southwest, a Regional Tourism Organization supported by the provincial Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport, took some time yesterday to gear up for National Tourism Week with an event at Arrowwood Farm & Events in Melbourne. National Tourism Week takes place from May 19th to 25th, and serves as a platform to recognize the crucial role of tourism in Canada, extending its impact well beyond economic realms. This year’s theme, “Canada: Powered by Tourism,” aims to highlight the profound contributions of the tourism sector to the nation’s prosperity and cultural diversity. Executive Director of Ontario’s Southwest, Joanne Wolnik explains the importance of the week.
The event brought representatives from local businesses and municipalities in southwestern Ontario together for networking opportunities, a keynote presentation focusing on packaging and partnerships, refreshments, and a special presentation by Ontario’s Southwest. Director of Economic Development Middlesex County, Cara (CARE- ah) Finn, says it is important to celebrate tourism as it makes up a large part of the economy.
The occasion delved into discussions about the significance of tourism in our communities and how it contributes to our collective well-being and according to Finn, provided a chance to say thank you to all in the tourism sector.
