A new fire truck is coming to Adelaide Metcalfe Township. Recently, Council heard from Fire Chief Dan Parker who outlined the procurement process for replacing the current tanker, which has been in service since 2000. The decision to replace the tanker stemmed from the township’s asset management plan and recommendations from a Fire Services Review, which underscored the necessity of an upgrade to uphold efficient and dependable services.
The initial tender for the new tanker, issued in December of 2023 yielded no responses, prompting a reassessment of the procurement specifications. Adjustments were made, and a second tender was released in January 2024 which received four bids. Fort Garry Fire Trucks, in Winnipeg, emerged as the chosen supplier, presenting a bid $10,282 below the budget threshold of $575,000. Delivery of the truck is anticipated within 18 to 20 months following the purchase agreement. Council unanimously endorsed the purchase of the new tanker truck.
