Twenty community groups and organizations collaborated for the inaugural Great Community Litter Clean-up in Peterborough, making Earth Week really count.
With over 1.2 tonnes of litter gathered, the equivalent of 133,000 plastic bottles, the event proved the power of collective action.
Councillor Joy Lachica praised the community’s dedication, emphasizing everyone’s role in maintaining a clean city.
The garbage bags for the collection were provided by Glad Canada, who sponsored the successful event.
Groups are encouraged to organize litter clean-ups in parks, trails, or public spaces throughout the year. Interested parties can register their clean-up on the City’s website to receive a free litter clean-up kit and coordinate garbage collection with Public Works staff.
