Needing help can be literally a voice away. Visitors to OPP West Region detachments outside regular hours will now have access to an upgraded public calling system called the “E-phone.” This touchscreen-based system replaces the traditional handset phones that have been in place for many years. Although modernized, its primary function remains unchanged. Similar to its predecessor, all calls made through the E-phone will directly connect to the OPP Provincial Communications Centres for assistance.
Upon selecting the call-screen icon, PCC call-takers and dispatchers will instantly see the location from which the call originates. This streamlined display of location information saves time for call-takers and assures the public that their whereabouts are promptly identified, ensuring an appropriate police response. Currently, 20 out of the 34 West Region locations have made the transition to the new E-phone system, with the remaining installations expected to be completed by the fall.
