The City of Peterborough is gearing up to celebrate National Public Works Week in style with an exciting event designed for all ages. On Tuesday, May 21st, from 10 am to 1 pm, the Eastgate Park parking lot, located at 2150 Ashburnham Dr., will transform into a hub of activity for the Touch-a-Truck event and free tree give-away.
“The City of Peterborough has an excellent team of employees at Public Works and I am proud to celebrate their efforts serving the community. We are happy to offer a Touch-a-Truck event to connect with everyone, young and old, letting them check out our City equipment up close,” said Cassandra Babcock, Public Works Operations Director.
The event isn’t just about admiring trucks and equipment; it’s also a chance for residents to contribute to the city’s urban forest. As part of the festivities, the City will be giving away trees to Peterborough residents. Each household can pick up one tree, with a total of 150 trees available on a first-come, first-served basis. The trees, conveniently packed in 2-gallon buckets for easy transportation, include popular species such as River Birch, Sycamore, Tulip Tree, Red Oak, Tamarack, American Elm, Alleghany Serviceberry, and Basswood.
Free parking will be available at the main parking lot on Ashburnham Drive, just south of Eastgate Park, with overflow parking available at Beavermead Park.
The event promises to be a fun-filled day, with plenty of opportunities to learn about the vital work of the Public Works department.
