There’s a lot of excitement across Ontario and right here in Strathroy, now that Toronto has landed a WNBA team as of last week’s announcement. The yet-to-be-named team will be the 14th in the league franchise and first outside the United States starting play in 2026. Senior Girls Basketball Coach at SDCI Cassie Tamminga is also a coach for the very popular Strathroy Spirit, part of the Ontario Basketball Association.
Tamminga says this new Canadian franchise is a big deal.
She says having the WNBA in Toronto will likely make female basketball even more popular.
