This week, myFM told you that Glencoe’s summer fun had taken a plunge as the town’s pool and splashpad was unexpectedly shut down until further notice. This disruption comes at a very unfortunate time as most of Southwestern Ontario is experiencing a major heat wave. We spoke with Southwest Middlesex Mayor Allan Mayhew, who told us that this is unfortunate news for the community of Glencoe.
The issues leading to the shutdown of both the splashpad and the pool stem from a major event that happened during the summer of last year.
Mayhew says staff have been working hard to try and solve the issues, but so far all the efforts have come up short.
There is a Health Unit inspection booked for the pool Friday. If the pool passes inspection, it will be open along with the splashpad as early as Friday afternoon. However if it fails, residents could be waiting awhile before taking a swim.
In the meantime, residents are encouraged to keep cool elsewhere such as the library, which has been named a designated cool zone, and await the splashy return of their favorite water oasis.
