Strathroy-Caradoc Council this week approved the appointments to the new Fire Services Advisory Committee but not without discussion and some confusion. The Committee was established by a resolution of Council in November of last year with the initial draft of the Committee’s Terms of Reference being received by Council in March of this year and approved in early April. Based on the allocations, there were questions raised about members needing experience, or was there a need for any experience for this type of committee to which Councillor Brennan reviewed the terms of reference.
Councillors Wilsie and Derbyshire who both voted against the allocations did express not only concerns about member experience but about the actual reason for a committee such as this as Councillor Derbyshire eluded to in chambers.
Deputy Mayor Mike McGuire also chimed in on the discussion trying to make things simpler for council and the public.
In the end Council did in fact agree with the recommendations of the Striking Committee and approved the allocations of Scott Barker, Jane (Janny) Bruinink, Deputy Mayor Mike McGuire, Councillor Sandi Hipple, and Councillor John Brennan to the Fire Services Advisory Committee for the balance of this Council term.
