Earlier this month Adelaide Metcalfe Council granted pre-budget approval for the purchase of a new tandem snowplow, a vital move to enhance the township’s road maintenance. The township follows a 15-year replacement cycle for its snowplow fleet, with the current Mack snowplow slated for replacement in 2025.
However, due to a significant backlog in heavy truck manufacturing, delivery times have stretched up to 14 months. To avoid delays and ensure the snowplow is ready by winter 2025/2026, the council approved early funding. The 2024 capital forecast includes $416,000 for this purchase, with funding recommended from the lifecycle management reserve fund.
The report advises securing the order by September 2024, aligning with the township’s asset management plan and guaranteeing the timely arrival of the new equipment. This proactive step underscores the township’s commitment to maintaining safe and efficient roads.
