Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease among Canadian children, making September’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month crucial. This month is dedicated to recognizing the thousands of children and families impacted by cancer. Across Southwestern Ontario, municipalities are lighting up gold, raising flags, and officially recognizing the month to show support.
Suzanne Fratschko Elliott, Executive Director at Childcan, expressed deep gratitude for these actions. She emphasized that “glowing gold” symbolizes solidarity with affected families and highlights the importance of continued research.
The gold ribbon, an internationally recognized symbol, represents the preciousness of children. Childcan, which supports 25% of childhood cancer diagnoses in Ontario, encourages everyone to participate in raising awareness.
