The Strathroy Rockets dropped their first game of 2025 by a 5-3 score to the first place St. Marys Lincolns at the WMMC Saturday night.
The Lincolns held a 4-1 third period lead until a pair of late powerplay goals by Braedon Clark and Brendan Gerber brought the Rockets back to within a goal. St. Marys clinched the match with a Luca Spagnolo powerplay goal with 30 seconds remaining in regulation time.
The loss was a costly one for the Rockets as the Kitchener-Waterloo Siskins earned 3 points this weekend to move into a tie with the Rockets for the 8th and final playoff spot.
Strathroy also dealt local boy 2006′ forward Zach Vanderwal to the Sarnia Legionnaires in exchange for Dorchester native Noah Vandenberg. This deal was part of a 3-team deal including the London Nationals. Vandenberg made his debut Saturday for the Rockets.
The Rockets will see action twice this week, travelling to Sarnia to play Vanderwal and the revamped Legionnaires on Thursday before hosting the Stratford Warriors on Saturday.
