The Peterborough community is mourning the loss of nine-year-old Mark Stephen Mose, who died at home in the arms of his family on Wednesday, May 21st.
Mark is remembered as a beloved son to Shawn and Stephanie, and a loving brother to his twin Ben, sister Chelsea and older brother Evan. He was a cherished grandson of John and Lois Mose and Steve and Tammy Driscoll.
A student at St. Martin Catholic Elementary School in Ennismore, Mark touched the lives of many classmates, teachers, friends and neighbours with his joyful spirit and resilient heart. His family says his smile brought light to those around him, and they are “forever grateful” for the nearly 10 years they shared with him.
Visitation will take place at Nisbett Funeral Home, 600 Monaghan Rd. S., on Friday, May 30 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, May 31 from 11 a.m. to noon. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at Northview Community Church, 1000 Fairbairn St., with interment at Rosemount Memorial Gardens.
Donations in Mark’s memory can be made to the Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada or the Make-a-Wish Foundation Canada.
Support for the family is also coming in from the sports community, including the Century 21 Lakers. The Lakers announced the organization will be holding a raffle to help ease any financial burden, from funeral costs to time off.
Additionally, Ennismore Minor Hockey President Billy Young put out a statement:
On behalf of Ennismore Minor Hockey and from the bottom of my heart, I want to extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences on the passing of your beloved son and brother, Mark.
Mark’s life, though far too short, touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His strength and spirit were truly inspiring. Living with IHPRF1 and Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, Mark faced more challenges in his nine years than most will in a lifetime—yet he did so with incredible courage, resilience, and a light that warmed the hearts of everyone around him.
There are no words that can ease the sorrow of such a profound loss, but please know that your hockey family—and the wider Ennismore community—grieves with you. We will remember Mark not just for the conditions he bravely endured, but for the love he gave, the joy he shared, and the way he brought people together.
As both a friend and a parent, we can only imagine the depth of your pain. Please know that our thoughts, prayers, and unwavering support are with your entire family during this unimaginably difficult time.
