Medical students from Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry will begin their training with the Middlesex Hospital Alliance (MHA) as part of Discovery Week 2025, taking place May 25–29.
For 27 years, Discovery Week has provided all first-year Schulich medical students with one-week immersive placements in health-care settings across Southwestern Ontario. This year, students will be placed at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital and Four Counties Health Services, where they’ll gain hands-on experience in rural and small-town health care.
During their placements, students will observe interdisciplinary teamwork, engage with patients, and explore the unique dynamics of health care in non-urban communities. They’ll also have the chance to connect with the residents of Strathroy-Caradoc and Southwest Middlesex, experiencing life as a local care provider.
More than 190 students will be placed in over 30 communities, from Windsor to Owen Sound, offering a valuable introduction to Ontario’s diverse health-care environments.
