What initially appeared to be a distant prospect for a new arena and recreation centre in Mount Brydges, may not be as far off as it originally seemed. Now almost FIVE years into the process. which has included at one point an arena/recreation facility sub-committee comprised of council, municipal staff and members of the public that ran for over 18 months, even as close as having a design for a new facility, then being shutdown in favour of a new committee made up of only council members from this administration. myFM has also obtained quotes over the last year from council members that a new arena in the village based on multiple variables was decades away.
Now that all could change again, as this week at Strathroy-Caradoc Council, Mayor Colin Grantham proposed a motion which eventually got passed directing staff to conduct a land needs analysis for a future Municipal Complex in the area, which could include an arena, a firehall, and potentially other facilities. Although a new firehall is already outlined in the Municipality’s Strategic Plan, assessing the land requirements in terms of how much potential acreage would be needed is a crucial next step to move forward with the broader vision for these projects. The motion aims to kickstart discussions around land availability and explore possible sites for future development.
