Millbrook’s 4th Line Theatre opens its 33rd summer season on July 1st, staging the world premiere of The Housekeeper until July 19 at the Winslow Farm.
Co-written by theatre founder Robert Winslow and playwright Ian McLauchlan, it’s the fourth in a series of plays about the Barnardo children staged by 4th Line.
Set in 1955, The Housekeeper centres on the Millbrook arrival of a mysterious woman. Look for a job, Eleanor Gwyn sees being the housekeeper for widower Walter White as a good fit.
While Eleanor is anxious to put down roots in a place she can call home and, effectively, find a fresh start, local tongues begin to wag, the gossip mill working overtime. Eleanor may be ready for Millbrook, but there’s question around whether Millbrook is ready for her and her progressive world views.
Winslow, who is directing the play, says his relationship with McLauchlan, with whom he has co-written several plays, is indeed special.
Winslow speaks to the play’s main character.
Winslow, who hasn’t directed since 2019, says he’s “really enjoying the process.”
