As intense heat waves sweep through southwestern Ontario, a stretch of Highway 402 in Lambton County has been shut down due to heat-induced damage. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded on Sunday evening, just after 6 p.m., following reports of hazardous road conditions on the westbound lanes near Wyoming.
With temperatures reaching over 30°C that day, a Ministry of Transportation spokesperson confirmed that a pavement joint was damaged by the extreme heat and requires repairs. The closure affects the stretch of highway between Oil Heritage Road and Mandaumin Road, though a detour has been set up to reroute traffic. The area is expected to reopen later this week, with permanent repairs slated for the fall, according to the spokesperson.
