A big Canada Day celebration is returning to Strathroy-Caradoc this year, and organizers are promising a night full of fun, food, and fireworks. The event will take place on Sunday, at the Gemini Sportsplex, with gates opening at 6 p.m. Chris Das, a member of the volunteer planning committee, says the celebration was created to bring people together and give Strathroy a Canada Day party of its own.
The choice to host the event on the Sunday before Canada Day really came down to one thing.
According to Das, the evening will feature a packed schedule and is a fully licensed event.
The event ends with a show like no other in town.
To help cover costs, there is a $10 parking fee per car at designated lots near the Gemini Sportsplex, High School and at Providence United Reformed Church. Volunteers at the gates will also be collecting donations. All proceeds from donations, as well as most of the event’s extra funds, will go to the VON breakfast program, which helps feed students in the Strathroy-Caradoc area.
For those who don’t want to drive, Langs Bus Lines is offering free shuttle service.
The organizing group is also selling special event t-shirts, including a “StrathVegas” design. Most of the money from sales will also go to the breakfast program, while a small portion will help fund future events.
Prime Minister Mark Carney even got involved in Strathroy’s Canada Day celebrations…sending a letter to the committee thanking them for organizing the event.
