The situation surrounding the Mount Brydges Wastewater Treatment Facility appears to remain stalled and disorganized, with Strathroy-Caradoc Council perhaps struggling to gain momentum. As previously reported by myFM, the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks has raised ongoing concerns, noting that although an interim design plan was submitted in 2023, no upgrades have been initiated.
The Municipality has been out of compliance for seven years and was recently granted a 30-day extension, ending in August, to formally respond. A Council workshop was scheduled for this Monday to assess next steps, but a motion to include key reports failed, due to the fact that they are simply not ready yet. Councillor Brian Derbyshire questioned the cart before the horse feeling.
Town staff did comment that they would do their best to share the information collected to date at Monday’s meeting and believe there would be value to it. Mayor Grantham says there would be no decisions made at the July 25th meeting, and Councillor Derbyshire took exception to the Mayor’s comments.
Now Council has really backed themselves into a tight timeframe as they decided to push Monday’s workshop meeting back almost a month to August 25th, just days before the extension deadline from the Ministry. Now Council will have 7 days, not 4 weeks to partake in a workshop and formally respond to the Ministry with it’s decision on how to proceed.
