After 12 seasons and 471 NHL games, Strathroy native Nathan Beaulieu has officially announced his retirement from professional hockey. The 32-year-old defenceman made the announcement on Wednesday, capping off a career that saw him record 98 points—12 goals and 86 assists.
Selected in the first round of the 2011 NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens, Beaulieu broke into the league during the 2012-13 season. He became a key part of Montreal’s defence, highlighted by a career-best 28-point season in 2016-17. Beaulieu also played for Buffalo, Winnipeg, and Anaheim, where he last suited up in 2022-23. Over the last two years he played in the Swiss league and the KHL.
