A 35-year-old Peterborough man is facing several new charges after a police pursuit in the city’s downtown core.
Around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, a K9 officer on patrol spotted the man, wanted on a warrant, riding a bicycle in the area of Aylmer and Murray streets. When the officer attempted to stop him, the man fled on foot, discarding an item as he ran.
Const. Wentworth and police service dog Gryphon pursued the suspect and caught him in a nearby alley. The discarded item was later found to be a replica handgun, and police say three knives were also seized during a search.
The man was wanted on charges of mischief under $5,000 and failing to comply with a probation order. He now faces additional counts, including unauthorized possession of a weapon and possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.
He appeared in court later that day.
