Axiom Mutual Insurance is marking a major milestone this year, 150 years since its roots began, and they’re celebrating with a special event called the Harvest Party.
The party is set to take place at Axiom’s Zurich location, where the company owns farmland that has recently been used to grow crops for local food banks. Shawn Durnin, CEO of Axiom Mutual, says the event is meant to celebrate the company’s long history and bring the community together in support of a good cause.
Axiom Mutual was formed by the merger of two older mutual insurance companies, Hay Mutual, based in Zurich, and Town and Country Mutual, from Strathroy. Both of those companies have roots going back to 1875.
To mark the anniversary, Axiom decided to stop renting out its Zurich farmland and instead planted a crop of winter wheat in 2024. The entire harvest is being donated to help local food banks in Huron and Middlesex counties.
The Harvest Party will be a casual, come-and-go gathering, taking place in the evening near the freshly harvested wheat field. Guests can enjoy food from three local food trucks: Chow Food Co., Wicked Witches of West Street, and Mr. Cool’s Ice Cream. All three local food banks will be on site to accept donations.
While admission is free, people are asked to register ahead of time through Eventbrite or by calling the Axiom Mutual office.
Durnin says the company’s long history is something worth recognizing.
The Harvest Party is both a celebration of the past and a look toward the future. The event takes place Tuesday July 29th, from 3pm to 7pm.
