It’s our Growing Up on the Farm feature this week presented by Rock Glen Resort…Cabins, Camping, and Year-Round Fun and powered by Kubota. This week focuses on Bloomers Family Farm in Ilderton and we talked with Kendra and Steve Bloomfield. They started the operation over a decade ago and they live on Steve’s family farm, originally a dairy operation then converted to a beef operation.
Kendra says the business has grown and they couldn’t be happier, as they have had a store on site since 2011. She says growing up on a farm has its pros and cons but it’s wonderful to be able to live and work all together as a family as Steve’s parents are still involved and their own four children also are part of the operation.
Steve gave us some good advice as far as if someone wants to maybe get involved in the farming industry or the younger generation thinking about taking over the family business. He says it is tough but its best to have family involved maybe already even starting with family involved. Steve says you need the willingness to work long hours, and there are rewards, not specifically financial but you have a great place to live and raise family teaching them work values and work ethics.
You can find Bloomers Family Farm on Ivan Drive or at www.bloomersfamilyfarm plus on Facebook and Instagram.
Their store is open Fridays from 10-5pm and Saturdays from 9-3pm.
