County-Wide Burn Ban in Effect August 11
After consultation with multiple stakeholders, the Fire Chiefs of Middlesex County have jointly declared a county-wide burn ban, effective Monday, August 11. Recreational fires have also been banned in certain Municipalities.
The ban will remain in place until weather conditions improve. During this time, no burn permits will be issued anywhere in the County.
As of 4pm on Monday afternoon the following municipalities are not allowing recreational fire:
- Lucan-Biddulph
- Adelaide-Metcalfe (RESTRICTED)
- Newbury
At this time Strathroy-Caradoc, Middlesex Centre, Southwest Middlesex, North Middlesex and Thames Centre are allowing small backyard fires that are extinguished as soon as you have finished the burn. However, it is recommended to avoid setting a campfire unless needed.
myFM did reach out to Strathroy-Caradoc Mayor Colin Grantham who said the municipality is abiding by the County ban, and there was discussion about extending the ban to include recreational fires but at this time they are allowed.
