As myFM gears up for our AKKO Cement Finishers All Hands on Deck Food Drive Thursday, we’re welcoming one new sponsor and we’re helping one new food bank this year. Lambton College has signed on as our Education Sponsor. Communications Specialist at the College, Lauren Ward says it’s a great fit.
Ward says from an early age, it’s clear that students need proper nourishment to be able to learn.
Much of the hunger in our communities goes unnoticed, and Ward touches on that.
One of the recipients of the food and cash donations we’ll be collecting on Thursday will be the Contact House Food Bank which operates out of the upper level of the Shores Recreation Centre in Forest.
This is their first year with us.
The food bank is open every Tuesday from 9:30 am -11:15 am and they have pre-packed emergency boxes if needed. Families can use the service every three weeks. They’re given a cart and shop with a volunteer to get the items they need. They also have a great team of dedicated volunteers, up to 12 per week with some having been with the food bank for over 18 years.
The Contact House Food Bank is completely funded by the Community.
