The manslaughter trial of a Strathroy woman charged in the 2015 death of a toddler has been postponed once more, with proceedings now scheduled to resume in December.
Meggin Van Hoof, 46, stands accused in the death of 15-month-old Nathaniel McLellan, who suffered a fatal head injury while in her care at a home daycare in October 2015. Van Hoof has pleaded not guilty to the single charge of manslaughter.
Originally expected to run for four weeks, the trial has faced numerous delays and legal arguments, prompting the court to allocate an additional five weeks. So far, the only witness to testify has been the child’s mother, Rose-Anne Van De Wiele, who spent more than a week on the stand.
The trial is now set to continue on December 15, with further court dates scheduled into January and February to accommodate the extended proceedings.
