In a report to Adelaide Metcalfe Council this month, Adelaide Metcalfe Fire experienced a notably active period, particularly along township roads and highways. According to Fire Chief Dan Parker, the department responded to 10 motor vehicle collisions, including two requiring extrication and one involving a tractor-trailer rollover on Highway 402. Additional calls included grass fires, medical assist responses, and several non-emergency smoke alarm incidents. The department also provided mutual aid to the Southwest Middlesex Glencoe Station to help contain a wheat field fire.
Training efforts during the quarter focused on enhancing firefighter readiness with new self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) units, ladder operations, and tanker water supply drills. These activities were part of the department’s preparation for the arrival of a new 2,500-gallon tanker from Fort Garry Fire Trucks, expected by the end of October.
August also featured the annual fish fry hosted by the Adelaide Metcalfe Firefighters Association drawing 385 guests and was considered a strong success, supported by generous contributions from the community and local donors.
In September, the department navigated several logistical challenges related to ongoing road and railway construction in the Kerwood area, which temporarily impacted response routes.
While no immediate recruitment drive is planned, the department expects to reassess staffing levels early in the new year and may consider bringing on new members at that time.
